The Film Maven FAQ

The Film Maven FAQ

Have a question for Kristen at The Film Maven? Consider looking at the below!

What Does The Film Maven Cover?

Like the title implies The Film Maven covers the film world. We publish reviews, essays, interviews and analysis of movies both new and classic. However, we’re in our “spaghetti at the wall” era and enjoy writing about other things. So you’ll see discussion of TV, disability in pop culture, and the world of entertainment journalism. There is nothing really off-limits at The Film Maven so long as it feel like it’d be “TFM approved.” We also cover LA-based entertainment events.

Will you review my film?

Because I'm currently the sole writer for The Film Maven my time is limited. The scope of the site is strictly new and classic, studio released features. Independent film coverage is limited and is at my discretion.

Will you interview me or my client? Attend my event?

Like the previous question I'm very selective about my interview subjects. That being said, if you or your client has a large project coming out and a highly unique angle I'm open to discussing it. As far as events, if they have an entertainment angle and are in Los Angeles, I'm open to attending.

How can I work with Kristen and The Film Maven?

I am available for the following: Commissioned writing (essays for anthologies, articles, etc.). Media interviews. Career consultations with an emphasis on entertainment journalism and nonfiction pop culture publishing. Q&A moderation (experience in above and below the line talent for FYC season). Film introductions. Disability related media consultations for businesses with a speciality in wheelchair use and physical disabilities. Sponsorships, brand ambassadorships, and social media collaborations.

I’m a writer who wants to write for TFM. How can I and what are your rates?

The Film Maven is hoping to open up freelance film pitches in 2025. Film and TV reviews and interviews are a possibility. The site is also open to film and TV essays and analysis, as well as reported pieces. Writing about the entertainment journalist scene, the role of disability or other marginalized communities in the pop culture world, etc. However, in the interest of transparency and to not waste anyone’s time, I'm very limited on freelance commissions and rates are $50.
