Since its beginnings in 1978, the Sundance Film Festival has grown into the largest independent film fest in the U.S., and one of the best places to premiere new and cutting-edge voices in independent cinema. Sundance has launched numerous world-class directors’ careers: Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs, Christopher Nolan’s breakout Memento, Darren Aronofsky’s Pi, and Ryan Coogler’s Fruitvale Station, as well as cult classics like Napoleon Dynamite, Little Miss Sunshine, and The Blair Witch Project. It has a hefty footprint in Hollywood that you can’t afford to miss.

The Park City, UT institution is undergoing major changes soon, relocating to Boulder, Colorado for a ten-year deal. It’s the first move in the fest’s history (though Sundance has also spun off in select world cities), making this festival an important final hurrah (at least for now) in its storied Park City city of origin.

Adding to the significance is this year’s loss of Sundance founder and world-class talent Robert Redford, whose absence will surely be felt. While those factors alone will make this Sundance one for the books, this year also boasts a wide range of genre-spanning, innovative can’t-miss films. Here are 15 you absolutely can’t miss.
