Kristen's 18 Favorite New Discoveries of 2025
The classic and contemporary non-new releases I fell in love with over the year.
This year felt like movies really took a backseat, at least movies outside of the new releases. The year 2025 saw me writing two books concurrently while editing a third, gathering up freelance assignments, transitioning TFM from Substack to Ghost, and generally dodging the news of everything that's happened this year. I spent more time reading–both because of the book I was writing and otherwise–than watching movies.
But, thankfully, some new discoveries were able to slip in here. These are the 18 movies I fell in love with for the first time. Some of these are several decades old while others are from the last year. Either way, these movies transported me and reminded me why I love film in the first place. Maybe some of these will get added to your list!
