The 6 Best Things I Watched and Read in October
It's a small but mighty list of things I loved last month and recommend.
You’re probably asking, “Why is this paywalled?” Paid subscribers are the backbone of The Film Maven and becoming one shows support for independent journalism, as well as female- and disabled-created content.
Paid Film Mavens get access to two-three exclusive articles a week including my series The Trade and Popcorn Disabilities, as well as the ability to chat with me on The Film Maven's Discord server. They'll also be the first to get my new 2026 series I'll be announcing soon.
Be sure to add The Film Maven to your accepted emails so they don't end up in spam!
Enjoy what you’re reading? Share it with friends. Help us get to 1,000 subscribers by the end of 2025 and I’ll do a full written and video review of Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis.
I didn't watch or read a ton this month, mostly because I was on deadline for my last book, Welcome, Boils and Ghouls: The Complete Oral History of Tales From the Crypt, which you'll be able to read in 2027. So, I didn't have a ton of time to do much of anything that wasn't involving the Crypt Keeper.
But I still have a small but mighty list of five movies and one book I was able to enjoy. We're in the midst of awards season so you'll probably see a few of these on my must see movies of the month post, which is coming soon.
Be sure to let me know what movies and books you enjoyed last month in the comments below.
