From Criterion Channel to TCM, the movies we watched (and loved) for the first time this year
I talked about this in my New Year’s post, but I had a very fraught relationship to movies in 2024. I didn’t have the time or the energy to watch a ton. Weirdly enough, my classic film output ramped up during the Christmas holidays. Either way, this was a great year for new discoveries — defined here as anything that isn’t a new release — thanks to the Criterion Collection, new physical releases and a general desire to seek out something “from the past.” Below are the 31 movies we watched for the first time (and loved) in 2024.
